1) Make a list of why you want or need to lose weight. Although your overall
appearance and good health should be the main reasons why you want to lose weight, everyone has different
reasons. Are you trying to fit into a new dress or a new swimsuit? Do you just want to live longer for your
family? Is your health currently at risk because of your weight? Make a list of all the reasons and list them
in order of importance.
2) Determine the reasons you may have failed at dieting and losing weight in
the past. Did you have some hidden fear you haven't acknowledged? Is there something that stood in the way of
your being successful at dieting? One of the best ways of learning how to find motivation to lose weight is to
determine how this time will be different and better.
3) Talk to others about your weight loss goals. When you speak aloud about
your weight loss goals, you're making them more real and you're making yourself more accountable. Your friends
and family members can become a great support system if you let them. You'll also be less likely to cheat on
your diet if you know they're aware of your goals.
4) Reward yourself for a job well done. Although you may have an overall
weight loss goal of 75 pounds, be generous about rewarding yourself when you've lost 10 pounds or more. Splurge
on a new outfit or a day of doing something you enjoy doing. Take a friend or family member with you and let
them know why you're rewarding yourself. Making them a part of your success is a great way to find motivation
to lose weight.
5) Speak to others you know that have dieted and lost weight. Nothing will
help you get motivation to lose weight more than being aware of another success story. They'll give you
inspiration to do the same.
6) Avoid being around people that undermine your efforts to
lose weight or are not supportive. This is a time in your life when you need all the support you can
get.
7) Buy yourself a couple of new outfits in smaller sizes and
hang them where you can see them easily. These favorite outfits will be a constant source of motivation to lose
weight. Stop wearing baggy sweats and replace them with more form-fitting clothes, particularly when they're a
small size. The better you look, the more motivation to lose weight you'll have.
